Black History Month: Of Thee I Sing

We kicked off Black History Month by reading Barak Obama's book written for his daughters together.

At St. George's, we believe that pupils should be able to see themselves in the curriculum, as well as being prepared for life in modern Britain.

Part of that is learning about black history - not just in Black History Month but across the curriculum.

Across Black History Month, we will be doing some 'Spotlight' features on some of the ways our curriculum is representative across the year.

However, we will also be marking the month with learning in whole school worships.

This week we kicked off by reading the book 'Of Thee I Sing - A Letter to My Daughters' written by Barak Obama, in which he introduces figures in history he believes his daughters should look up to.

We talked about some of these characters and about how we could use their examples to be courageous advocates ourselves. We all left feeling inspired. What a great start to an empowering month.
