Literacy: The Green Ship – Play Script

Remind yourself of the features of a play script. 

What are:

  • Character descriptions
  • Scene number, title and setting description
  • Speaker name, colon and dialogue
  • Stage directions

Can you find an example of a Play Script either at home or online? Can you identify these features in it?

History: Spain- Fiestas

What does the word Fiesta mean in Spanish?

What is a Fiesta?

What word is similar in English?

Research Spanish Fiestas and choose one to focus on.

La Tomatino – The Tomato Fight           

Ferier de Abril –  Seville April Fair

Fiestas de San FerminSan Fermin Festival

 

Fallas de Valencia – Failures of Valencia 

 

Find out:

  • Where does it take place?
  • What happens during the fiesta?
  • What time of year does it happen?

As a challenge can you find out:

  • Why does this fiesta take place?
  • When did it first start?

Which Fiesta would you like to take part in? Why?

Is there any that you would not like to take part in? Why not?

Create an informative poster about your chosen Fiesta.

Include fun facts and a diagram of what happens.

Literacy: Play Script – Plan

Remind yourself of the story of The Green Ship by Quentin Blake.

Imagine that the children on the ship go on an adventure to another country.

Scene 1 – Getting on the ship

Scene 2 – Adventure on the ship (remember to use the garden as inspiration) do the go to another country? What is it like? 

Scene 3 – How do they get back? What happens after?

Write character descriptions.

Characters you could include are:

  • Alice,
  • Alice’s Brother (What is his name?), 
  • Mrs Tredegar,
  • The Bosun,
  • A new character that they meet on their adventure?

Computing

Continue working on Scratch, Hour of code or Turtle academy.

  • Brackets for stage directions.
  • NO SPEECH MARKS.
  • Leave a line between each character’s speech

Science: 

The children will now have access to the Stemscopes science website. This allows us to be able to set work in a similar way to Mymaths. You can log in by following these steps:

1- Initial of first name + surname (If your surname is double barrelled include a space in between)

 2- Password is stgeorges

 3- Some usernames may be followed by the number 1.

If you are still unable to log in after  following these instructions then please email the school office on admin@stgeorges.lewisham.sch.uk and your child’s log in will be sent to you.

Our science focus this term is ‘Rocks and Fossils’.

What are the different types of fossils?

Present this information how you like: Poster, powerpoint, written non-fiction text.
