On 1st September 2014 the school officially changed name from Christ Church School to St George’s C of E School. The decision to change names was taken because the church of Christ Church had been deconsecrated years ago and the school’s link church was changed to St George’s church. In 2013 the Parish boundaries were redrawn to include St Michael’s church Sydenham and the name of Christ Church was removed from the name of the Parish. In discussion with the Governors, parents and Diocesan board it was agreed that the time was right to make the change.
On Thursday 2nd October the official Renaming service took place. We were joined by Governors, Fr John Ackland, members of the clergy, members of St George’s congregation, ex pupils of the school, the local Police, Frankie Sulke, the Director of Children and Young People from Lewisham Council and the Right Reverend Dr Michael Ipgrave, the Bishop of Woolwich. It was a very special day for the school – we even had our own St George, along with his companion knights and even a few dragons! The Bishop blessed both the new sign for the school and the new mosaics on display at the front of the school. The name of the school changed on that day but we still have the same aims, values and ethos which have made our school such a special place. Here are some of the images from that day:
