Lewisham year 3/4 Quicksticks Hockey Tournament

On Tuesday 24th February 2015, St George’s took part in the Sainsbury’s Quickstick hockey tournament along with 14 other teams. We entered two teams – team A and B. Each team consisted of 6 players (3 girls and 3 boys).

When we arrived the tournament director went over the rules and Henry in year 4 was asked to read the Athletes Oath.

The tournament started with 3 round robin groups with team A in group 1 and team B in group 2. Both teams played fantastically well scoring lost of goals, supporting each other and most importantly showed great sportsmanship. Armani even won the Sporting Spirit award for Passion.

After some fantastic hockey and a lot of hard work both teams did brilliantly. Team B came second in their group and Team A won their group not losing a match and went through to the finals.

The winning teams of each group went through to the finals and all played each other. At the end of the robin final it was a tie as all 3 teams drew each match so it went down to goal difference where St George’s and Brindishe Green tied on goal difference so they had to play another final. At the end of the time allocated it was 1-1 so it went down to a golden goal. The teams had an extra 2minutes and the next goal won. After a fantastic break and brilliant teamwork Henry managed to hit the ball in the back of the net making them the champions. Read more.
