Our Nursery

Be an explorer.

Be a trier.

Be a talker.

Be a creator.

At St George's, we are lucky to have a nursery for our pupils to gain the very best possible start to their school life. Our nursery is staffed with an experienced qualified teacher and highly qualified support staff.

The nursery is part of our Foundation Stage provision, enabling children to benefit from our early years educational expertise and leadership, and transition between nursery and reception classes.

Here's what Ofsted had to say about our Early Years:

...children show enjoyment and independence in their learning.

...Staff interact positively with children. They use questioning well to encourage children to think about their activities.

Our Learning Environment

We have a purpose-built new building and an incredibly spacious outdoor area, allowing our children to engage in a wide-range of fun learning activities, covering all areas of the Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Outdoor Provision

The exciting outdoor area includes:

  • An Exploration Station with sand and water play to  help develop scientific skills
  • A Balancing Circuit and Bike Track to build strength and co-ordination
  • A Performance Area for singing and dancing
  • A Nature Station for growing fruit and vegetables and developing an understanding of life cycles, seasons and the natural world
  • An amazing Mud Kitchen where children can experiment, collaborate, create - and have lots fun!

Outdoor learning also benefits from a large covered outdoor area, which allows play to continue in all weathers.

Indoor Provision

Indoors there are just as many enjoyable activities, with the nursery carefully planned to provide opportunities for the children to develop their learning and skills in all areas of the Early Years Curriculum.

Our indoor area includes:

  • A role-play area where children can develop their language, imagination and social skills
  • A construction area for developing fine motor skills and practical maths
  • A creative area where children can explore different expressive arts, including painting, printing, collage and model-making
  • A well-stocked book corner for discovering the joy of stories and reading
  • A graphics table where children can mark-make, draw and write using a wide range of equipment
  • A mathematics table to develop a wide range of mathematical skills including number, shape, problem-solving and pattern
  • A malleable table for lots of fun, messy play!
  • A snack table to help develop an understanding of healthy eating
