RE: Judaism in Jemison

In Year 1 Jemison class, we have been learning about Judaism.

Our RE vision is:

Be Curious.  Be Informed.  Be Reflective.

We have begun our unit by being curious about the different Jewish artefacts that are special to Jews.  We found out about the menorah, the seder plate, the kiddush cup and the kippah.  We also thought about symbols - pictures with a message - and how the Star of David is the symbol for Judaism.

We became more informed about the Torah, learning that it is written in Hebrew and is the holy writings for Jews.  We learned how Jews show respect for the Torah and God's messages in it by creating beautifully decorated covers for the Torah scroll.  Jemison class reflected on what decorations and symbols to use and designed our own Torah covers.
