Marvellous Minibeasts!

As part of Science week, Reception have been busy learning about and investigating minibeasts!

In English, we have enjoyed sharing and re-telling the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. We used our phonics to write about our favourite part of the story as well as to label our life cycle of a butterfly diagrams.

In Understanding the World, we have been looking at life cycles and identifying different types of minibeasts. Our role play area is now an investigation lab and we have enjoyed observing and comparing different minibeasts, as well as learning new linked vocabulary.

We have also loved going outside to look for minibeasts in their natural habitats!

In Expressive Arts and Design, we have been using a range of media, materials and techniques to create butterflies and caterpillars. We have been exploring symmetry and thought of ways to create symmetrical pictures!

Reception have really lived up to our Early Years vision statement;

Be an Explorer. Be a Trier. Be a Talker. Be a Creator.
