Exciting Electrons!

In year 6, we have been electrical engineers exploring electrons!

The start of this half-term, we have delved into the world of electricity. We started by learning exactly what electricity is and how it works. We looked at the atom and found the different features from the nucleus containing the neutrons and protons (+), these are orbited by the electrons (-). These electrons move from one atom to another when a potential difference is imparted on the atoms. 

We looked at this in working form as we investigated how batteries create a potential difference, the current flows from the positive side of the battery round the circuit through to the negative side. We also looked at diagnosing problems in circuits. If there was a component missing, we used our conclusive skills to derive a reason. 

Finally, we created our own investigations, we looked at how adding further batteries affected different components. Some of us investigated how many components a battery could handle before the potential difference became too much!
