Cracking Classification!

Year 6 have entered the world of classification through some terrific taxonomy!

This term Year 6 are looking into the world of classification. We started by exploring the life and practise of Carl Linnaeus. He invented taxonomy to make it easier to sort newly discovered and already existing animals. We started looking at the word 'taxonomy' and found that the 'tax' part meant to 'arrange' and the 'onomy' part meant the method. From here, we looked at his method of classifying animals. We then had a go ourselves and chose an animal to research. We made a variety of connections between words we know and the scientific words that are used.
