Our Value of the month: BELONGING

Dear St George’s families,

It has been a wonderful start to the new academic year, and we are now two and a half weeks in with plenty to celebrate already. A big thank you to all the parents who attended our Start of the Year meetings. These sessions were a great opportunity to share everything planned for your child’s class over the year ahead, and we really value your support.

Today, Head Boy and Head Girl applications were submitted to Ms McAlpine – a big well done to all pupils who put themselves forward. Shortlisting will take place next week, and we look forward to announcing the successful candidates soon.

Over the summer, we were proud to achieve the Platinum Award for School Games participation – a distinction earned by only a select few schools. This follows four consecutive Gold Awards and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our pupils, as well as the fantastic leadership of Miss Michell in sport at St George’s.

Home learning has now begun, and we are grateful to all parents for supporting your children in establishing these routines. A special thank you to our Year 2 families, who are adapting to new expectations now that pupils are in the main building with our older children.

Finally, please make sure to check the key dates below, as we have some important events coming up, including our Reading Cafés, which will share valuable insights into how we teach reading at St George’s and how you can support at home.

Warm regards,

Mr Janes

Head teacher

Attendance

At St Georges's, our culture statement says:

We are fun. We are together.

Being together means attending school regularly. This year, we have set a challenging target for attendance to be in line with pre-Covid levels. Each week we will publish our attendance in this newsletter. Please contribute by ensuring your child is in school, not missing out on learning.

This week's average attendance: 96.6%
Highest class attendance of the week: Jemison & Shackleton Class - 100%
Academic year's average attendance: 96.6%
Our target for the year: 97.00%

We are proud to say that we have now been awarded three attendance certificates. We were in the top 10% of similar schools for attendance over the whole academic year. This year, we have been in the top 25% of schools nationally for both Autumn and Spring term.
