Our Value of the month: THANKFULNESS

Dear St George’s families,

It has been a joyful and enriching fortnight at St George’s, filled with community, learning and shared celebration.

Last week, we gathered for our Harvest Festival at St George’s Church, and what a special occasion it was. We are incredibly grateful for your generous donations, which will support those in need within our local community. Father Richard was truly blown away by the children’s beautiful singing – it was a wonderful example of our school coming together in gratitude and kindness.

We also welcomed families to our Reading Cafés for Reception and Year 1. Attendance was fantastic, and we hope you found the sessions useful in supporting your child as they begin their reading journey. Building these strong early foundations makes such a difference, and it was lovely to see so many of you getting involved.

Trips are now well underway across the school. Be sure to read the news stories below to find out more about our exciting visits to The Houses of Parliament and the Windrush exhibition, where pupils gained valuable real-world learning experiences connected to their curriculum.

Looking ahead, after half term Year 4 will be swimming every afternoon, so please remember to send children in with their kits. In the second week back, we also look forward to welcoming families into school for our Open Classroom events after school. This is a great opportunity to visit your child’s classroom, explore their exercise books, celebrate their learning and speak with the class teacher. Please do make a note of the dates and times – working together is so important for every child’s success.

Wishing you all a wonderful half term break.

Warm regards,

Mr Janes

Attendance

At St Georges's, our culture statement says:

We are fun. We are together.

Being together means attending school regularly. This year, we have set a challenging target for attendance to be in line with pre-Covid levels. Each week we will publish our attendance in this newsletter. Please contribute by ensuring your child is in school, not missing out on learning.

This week's average attendance: 97.0%
Highest class attendance of the week: Shackleton Class - 99.0%
Academic year's average attendance: 96.8%
Our target for the year: 97.0%

We are proud to say that we have now been awarded three attendance certificates. We were in the top 10% of similar schools for attendance over the whole academic year. This year, we have been in the top 25% of schools nationally for both Autumn and Spring term.
