Our Value of the month: FORGIVENESS

Dear St George’s families,

It has been another busy and joyful few weeks here at St George’s, with so much to celebrate across the school.

Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraising for Jamaica. This cause was chosen by our pupils, and they were incredibly proud to see our whole community come together to make a difference.

Our Year 3 pupils had a brilliant experience at the Turning of the Year Concert at Blackheath Concert Halls. They sang a range of festive pieces alongside other Lewisham schools and represented St George’s wonderfully. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to perform in front of a large audience and build confidence on a professional stage.

We have also seen a flurry of class trips taking place recently. These visits play such an important role in bringing learning to life, and our pupils have been buzzing with excitement. Do take a look at the news stories below to see where each class has been and how these experiences have enhanced their curriculum work.

A huge congratulations goes to our Year 5 and 6 basketball team, who won first place in the Lewisham School Games. They are the first St George’s team to win at Lewisham level, and we are incredibly proud of both their performance and the sporting spirit they displayed throughout the competition.

Looking ahead, we are excited for our School Art Fair. You’ll be able to admire the children’s fabulous artwork and even purchase a final piece for a £1 contribution. Mince pies will be on sale, and our choir will be singing carols as you browse the displays — a lovely way to begin the festive season.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mr Janes

Attendance

At St Georges's, our culture statement says:

We are fun. We are together.

Being together means attending school regularly. This year, we have set a challenging target for attendance to be in line with pre-Covid levels. Each week we will publish our attendance in this newsletter. Please contribute by ensuring your child is in school, not missing out on learning.

This week's average attendance: 95.0%
Highest class attendance of the week: Benjamin Class - 97.2%
Academic year's average attendance: 96.7%
Our target for the year: 97.0%

We are proud to say that we have now been awarded three attendance certificates. We were in the top 10% of similar schools for attendance over the whole academic year. This year, we have been in the top 25% of schools nationally for both Autumn and Spring term.
