Our Value of the month: FAITH

Dear St George’s families,

Welcome back—I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable Easter break.

We’ve had a short pause in newsletters, which means there is plenty to catch up on in this edition. There are lots of fantastic news stories from across the school, so please do take the time to read through and celebrate all that has been happening.

Sporting events have been a real highlight recently, with pupils representing the school with great enthusiasm and teamwork. This week’s House Hockey Tournament was a brilliant example of this, with excellent participation and house spirit on display. We also have a number of Lewisham tournaments coming up—watch this space to see how our teams get on.

Looking ahead, we are very much looking forward to celebrating St George’s Day next week. As we do each year, pupils will be exploring why St George is such an important figure for our school. We are especially excited to see the children’s creative retellings of the famous myth—these are always a real highlight.

There is so much to look forward to this half term and across the summer term, with a wide range of events, experiences, and opportunities planned for our pupils.

We are also delighted to share the news that we have been awarded DfE funding to extend our Nursery provision to include two-year-olds. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the consultation—your responses clearly demonstrated the need for this provision in our local area. We anticipate this offer beginning in September 2026. A letter will be sent via SchoolPing soon for families who may be interested in this option for younger siblings.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mr Janes

Attendance

At St Georges's, our culture statement says:

We are fun. We are together.

Being together means attending school regularly. This year, we have set a challenging target for attendance to be in line with pre-Covid levels. Each week we will publish our attendance in this newsletter. Please contribute by ensuring your child is in school, not missing out on learning.

This week's average attendance: 98.0%
Highest class attendance of the week: Shackleton & Jemison Class - 100%
Academic year's average attendance: 96.5%
Our target for the year: 97.0%

We are proud to say that we have now been awarded three attendance certificates. We were in the top 10% of similar schools for attendance over the whole academic year. This year, we have been in the top 25% of schools nationally for both Autumn. Let's keep it up and see how we did in the Spring term!
