Our Value of the month: GENEROSITY

Dear St George’s families,

Welcome back! It has been a fantastic start to the new academic year, and it has been wonderful to see pupils settling so quickly back into school life. A particularly warm welcome goes to all of our new Reception families joining the St George’s community. Do take a look at the news stories below to see how brilliantly our newest pupils have settled in.

Our Year 6 pupils have already had a big adventure with their residential trip, creating some fantastic memories together at the beginning of their final year at St George’s. You can read more about their experiences in the news story below.

Our sporting calendar is well underway too, and we are incredibly proud of our Year 5 and 6 boys’ football team, who finished second out of 26 schools in the Lewisham Games. What a brilliant start to the year!

Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our start-of-year meetings. We really value the partnership between families and school and look forward to working together throughout the year. It has been particularly encouraging to see such high numbers of our Year 2 pupils completing their homework as they get used to this new expectation—please keep it up!

We are especially excited that our Nursery is now extending its provision to two-year-olds. On Monday, we will open our doors to our littlest pupils for the very first time! We know how much this provision is needed within our community and were delighted to receive DfE funding to make the necessary changes to our facilities. The finishing touches are now being made to the outdoor area, which we expect to be completed within the next few weeks. Look out for an update in a future newsletter.

Finally, we have held our Head Boy and Head Girl interviews this week as we begin forming our new Pupil Leadership Team. Well done to every pupil who put themselves forward and took part in a rigorous selection process, including an interview with Mr Janes and Miss MacAlpine. We will be announcing our new pupil leaders next week!

There is already so much happening at St George’s, and we are looking forward to another exciting year together.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mr Janes

Attendance

At St Georges's, our culture statement says:

We are fun. We are together.

Being together means attending school regularly. This year, we have set a challenging target for attendance to be in line with pre-Covid levels. Each week we will publish our attendance in this newsletter. Please contribute by ensuring your child is in school, not missing out on learning.

This week's average attendance: 96.0%
Highest class attendance of the week: Benjamin Class - 100%
Academic year's average attendance: 94.6%
Our target for the year: 97.0%

We are proud to say that we have now been awarded three attendance certificates. We were in the top 10% of similar schools for attendance over the whole academic year. This year, we have been in the top 25% of schools nationally for both Autumn. Let's keep it up and see how we did in the Spring term!
