Shackleton Class Visit Southwark Cathedral

Last week, Shackleton Class had the fantastic opportunity to visit the beautiful Southwark Cathedral.

Last week, Shackleton Class had the fantastic opportunity to visit the beautiful Southwark Cathedral. We explored the space in two groups, each with a brilliant guide who showed us around and helped us spot the many signs and symbols found throughout the cathedral.

From stained-glass windows to carvings and church furniture, we learned about the meaning behind each symbol and how they connect to Christian beliefs and stories. Our guides were full of knowledge and made the experience really fun and engaging.

The children especially enjoyed getting involved in the activities, acting and role play planned for us. We took on different roles and brought Bible stories to life, helping us to understand the significance of the cathedral’s artwork and design in a really memorable way.

This trip tied in perfectly with our RE curriculum vision

'Be curious. Be informed. Be reflective.'

We asked thoughtful questions, explored new ideas, and took time to reflect on what we had seen and learned. It was a peaceful and inspiring visit, and Shackleton Class came away with a deeper understanding of Christian worship and symbolism—and a big sense of curiosity about places of faith. A big thank you to Southwark Cathedral for such a special day!
