Ground Air Water

This term in Nursery, we’ve been diving into the wonderful world around us through our topic: Ground, Air, and Water.

The children have truly embraced their role as little scientists and artists, discovering how nature works and using their creativity to express what they’ve learnt, once again living out our Early Years Vision -

Be an Explorer. Be a Trier. Be a Talker. Be a Creator.

Growing and Learning from the Ground Up

One of our key focus areas has been watching the magic of growth unfold. The children have continued to monitor  and water the beans they planted, learning how a  seed can grow into a plant. This real-life science has sparked so much curiosity and conversation—perfect for encouraging our young learners to "Be an Explorer" and "Be a Talker."

We took this a step further by learning about the journey of a bean—from the garden to the supermarket shelf. The children were fascinated to discover how the beans they are growing can one day become baked beans in a tin! This helped them make real-world connections and understand where food comes from, a key part of developing their knowledge and understanding of the world.

To bring the learning to life we made baked beans on toast together. This was more than just a tasty treat—it was an opportunity to develop fine motor skills as the children practised using cutlery to cut, spread, spoon, and eat independently. These are such important life skills, and we’re proud of how confidently the children approached the task—truly being Triers!

Meanwhile Spring has continued to bloom all around us, and the children have been noticing the seasonal flowers and blossom. Inspired by what they’ve seen, they created handprint flowers,  This activity not only encouraged fine motor development but also provided a chance to "Be a Creator." The children also had the opportunity to make independent collage  flower pictures, using a variety of materials to express their own ideas.
