Windrush Pioneers!

Best Class celebrates the Windrush Pioneers!
This term, Year 6 have been learning all about the Windrush generation in our history lessons. We discovered why many people from the Caribbean came to Britain after 1948 and what life was like for them when they arrived. We learned about the hopes they had for a new life and the challenges they faced, including unfair treatment and racism.
We explored the stories of inspirational figures like Sam King and Norma Best — who our class is proudly named after! We thought deeply about the impact the Windrush generation has had on life in Britain and shared our ideas about how they helped shape the country we live in today.
To celebrate Caribbean culture and the amazing contributions of the Windrush pioneers, we ended the topic with a fun afternoon tasting jerk chicken wings and plantain chips all while enjoying the joyful rhythms of calypso music playing limbo!
They have certainly lived out our curriculum vision for History:
Be inspired. Be academic. Be reasoned.
