Times tables are a vital foundation of mathematical learning, and knowing multiplication facts by heart helps children become confident, fluent and successful mathematicians. When children can recall times tables quickly and accurately, they are better equipped to tackle more complex maths, solve problems efficiently and explain their thinking clearly.

In class, we place a strong emphasis on developing this essential skill. Each week, children take part in a multiplication speed test, where they challenge themselves to improve both accuracy and speed. Their hard work is rewarded with badges, celebrating effort, progress and achievement. Alongside this, every class completes 20 minutes of Times Tables Rock Stars each week, helping children practise in a fun, engaging and motivating way.

Back in September, children were set an exciting challenge: to achieve an average answer time of under one second on Times Tables Rock Stars. Those who met this impressive goal earned the prestigious title of ‘Rock Heroes’. This is a fantastic achievement and reflects real dedication, resilience and commitment to learning.

A huge well done to all children for the effort they put in week after week. Your determination is paying off. A special congratulations goes to our Rock Heroes, who have successfully completed the challenge of answering questions in under one second on average – an outstanding accomplishment!

We are confident that with continued practice and enthusiasm, we will see even more Rock Heroes emerge in the Spring term.
