Year 1 Jemison – Art: Painting 🎨

This week, Year 1 Jemison have started an exciting new topic in Art all about painting!
We have been living out the calls to action in our Art curriculum vision statement:
Be creative. Be proficient. Be reflective.
We began by learning about the famous artist Piet Mondrian, who is well known for using primary colours in his artwork. The children explored the three primary colours – red, blue and yellow – and talked about how these colours can be used to create bold and striking pictures.
In our first lesson, the children practised how to use a paintbrush correctly. We focused on a special technique called “dip, dip, dab”, which helped the children control their brushes and apply paint carefully. Everyone did a fantastic job remembering to dip their brush gently and dab the paint onto their paper.
The children also experimented with making curved lines, concentrating on moving their brush smoothly and confidently. There was lots of careful thinking, creativity, and pride in their work as they painted.
Year 1 Jemison showed great enthusiasm and focus, and we are so excited to continue exploring painting and learning more about art inspired by Piet Mondrian. Well done, Jemison – what a brilliant start to our new art topic! 🌟
