Year 1 Jemison Class โ Exploring Textiles ๐จ๐งต

This half term, Year 1 Jemison have started an exciting new art topic all about Textiles! We have been learning about the artist Anne Kelly, who creates beautiful artwork using fabric, stitching, and lots of interesting materials.
To begin our journey, we explored using oil crayons with careful control to create different patterns โ๏ธโจ. We practised making lines, shapes, and repeating designs, thinking about how artists can use pattern in their work.
We also had lots of fun experimenting with texture by using different types of fabric. We discovered how materials can be used to create unique effects and added these into our artwork to make it more interesting and tactile ๐คฒ๐งถ.
As part of our exploration, we investigated a variety of materials and yarns, noticing how they feel, look, and can be used in different ways. Some were soft, some were rough, and some were stretchy – perfect for inspiring our creativity!
We are very excited to continue developing our textile skills and can’t wait to create our own pieces inspired by Anne Kelly ๐๐ชก.
We have certainly lived out the calls to action in our Art curriculum vision statement:
Be creative. Be proficient. Be reflective.
