St George’s Showcases Talent and Teamwork at Football Tournament

Year 5/6 mixed football team at the Lewisham School Games football tournament.

On Tuesday 21st April 2026, our Year 5/6 mixed football team proudly represented the school at the School Games football tournament, held at St Dunstans Jubilee Grounds. The event brought together a strong field of teams, creating a challenging and exciting environment for all involved.

From the outset, the level of competition was clear. The matches were fast-paced and highly competitive, with players from all schools showcasing impressive ability. Throughout the tournament, there were plenty of skilful moments on display—stepovers, clever turns, quick passing moves, and confident dribbling highlighted just how much talent was on show.

A Team to Be Proud Of

St George’s approached every game with determination and a positive mindset. The players worked incredibly hard, supporting one another and showing resilience even when faced with tough opposition. Their effort and commitment never dropped, and they continued to give their all in every match.

Although, the competition proved to be very strong, and St George’s just missed out on progressing beyond the group stages, the team should be extremely proud of their performance. Every player represented the school brilliantly, demonstrating excellent behaviour, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day.

Living Our PE Values

Once again, our core PE values were clear to see:

  • Be Passionate – Players showed enthusiasm and energy, embracing the opportunity to compete and enjoy the game.
  • Be Respectful – Respect was shown at all times towards teammates, opponents, and officials, reflecting positively on the school.
  • Be Determined – Despite the tough competition, the team never gave up, continuing to work hard and push themselves in every game.

These qualities are what truly define success, and the team embodied them from start to finish.

Thank You for the Support

A big thank you goes to the parents and carers who came along to support. Your encouragement from the sidelines helped motivate the players and created a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

We would also like to thank the organisers for putting together such a well-run and enjoyable tournament.

Well done to all of our Year 5/6 players—you represented St George’s with pride, effort, and determination!
