Shackleton Class Clay Workshop at the V&A!

Last week, Shackleton Class travelled to the V&A Museum and took part in an exciting and creative clay workshop.

Last week, Shackleton Class travelled to the V&A Museum and took part in an exciting and creative clay workshop, where pupils explored the properties of clay and discovered why it is such a valuable material for designers. Throughout the session, they learned how clay can be shaped, moulded and transformed, helping them understand its versatility and importance in art and design.

A highlight of the experience was a visit to the Ceramic Galleries, where pupils explored a range of fascinating objects from the V&A collections. These artefacts helped them to see how objects can tell stories about who we are, the world we live in, and what we choose to celebrate or remember.

The workshop also gave pupils the opportunity to get hands-on, experimenting with clay to create their own designs. Using their creativity and imagination, each pupil produced a unique air-dry clay piece to take back to school. It was a fantastic experience that combined history, creativity and practical skills, and the class thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn in such an inspiring environment.

This trip linked perfectly with our art curriculum vision:

Be creative. Be proficient. Be reflective.

We explored different styles of art, thought about the artists’ techniques, and reflected on what inspired us the most.

Shackleton Class is definitely feeling inspired after this adventure!
