Sixes, Catches and Team Spirit: Year 5/6 Boys Take on Lewisham Cricket

Year 5/6 Boys Represent St George's at Lewisham School Games Cricket Tournament

On Wednesday 17th June, our Year 5/6 boys cricket team proudly represented the school at the Lewisham School Games Cricket Tournament, held at St Dunstan’s Jubilee Ground.

The team competed against all of the schools in their group, showing great enthusiasm, teamwork and determination throughout every match. The standard of competition was extremely high, with some very strong teams demonstrating great depth and experience. Despite their best efforts, the quality and strength of the opposition meant that we were unable to progress beyond the group stages.

However, the results do not tell the full story of the day. Our pupils were fantastic representatives of the school from start to finish. They showed exactly what the calls to action in our curriculum vision statement for PE are all about:

Be passionate.

Be respectful.

Be determined.

The boys played every game with passion, supporting each other, celebrating their teammates’ successes and showing a real love for the sport. They were respectful to their opponents and officials, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Most importantly, they remained determined, continuing to challenge themselves and give their very best in every match.

There were plenty of memorable moments, including some excellent catches, accurate and skilful bowling, and some incredible sixes that showed the talent and confidence within the team. Every player contributed and should be incredibly proud of the way they represented the school.

We are already looking forward to our next School Games competition: Year 6 Boys Full Court Basketball on Tuesday. This will be a brand-new event for us, and we are very excited to see our pupils take on this new challenge.

Well done to all of the boys involved — your effort, attitude and commitment made us proud!
