School Journey: PGL 2026!

Year 6 Take on PGL at Windmill Hill!
Our Year 6 children recently headed off on an action-packed three-day adventure to Windmill Hill PGL, ready to challenge themselves, work as a team and, most importantly, have lots of fun!
After travelling by coach, we wasted no time getting started. Our first activity was the Big Swing – a huge 25-foot swing! Safely attached to harnesses, the children worked together before taking on the challenge and showing incredible bravery. We also tackled a range of problem-solving activities, riddles and teamwork games, which put our communication and collaboration skills to the test.
After an exciting first afternoon, everyone was ready for dinner, with a choice of delicious lasagne or chicken nuggets. In the evening, we headed back outside for Passport to the World, an exciting nighttime orienteering challenge. Armed with questions about different countries, the children navigated around the site, working together to find the answers.
The following morning, Year 6 were up and at ’em early for breakfast before another busy day of activities. We headed off to canoeing, where the children had to work together to navigate the water, before taking part in survival activities. This included learning how to make a shelter from tents and even having a go at lighting a fire!
After lunch, which included cheeseburgers, we took on archery and then faced one of the biggest challenges of the trip: Jacob’s Ladder. Standing an enormous 30 feet tall, this giant climbing challenge required children to work together, encourage one another and show plenty of courage. Wearing helmets and harnesses, everyone pushed themselves to see how high they could climb.
After another delicious dinner of spaghetti and meatballs or chicken korma, we gathered around the campfire for an evening of games, laughter and, of course, toasted marshmallows. It was a fantastic opportunity to relax together and celebrate everything we had achieved during the day.
Our final morning was just as exciting. We took on the giant zip line, soaring through the air, before finishing our adventure with the climbing wall. Once again, the children encouraged one another and showed that they were willing to step outside their comfort zones and have a go.
Throughout the three days, it was wonderful to see the children building friendships, developing teamwork skills, solving problems together and showing real bravery. Whether they were climbing, paddling, navigating in the dark or simply encouraging a friend, everyone challenged themselves in different ways.
A fantastic time was had by all, and Year 6 should be incredibly proud of everything they achieved at Windmill Hill. What an adventure!
We certainly lived out our vision and culture statements this week:
Be brave. Be great. Be You.
We are fun. We are together.
