On Thursday 1st October, St George’s U10 football team had the fantastic opportunity to take part in a brilliant tournament hosted by Dulwich College.

Set against the impressive grounds of Dulwich College, the tournament brought together a range of local schools for a fantastic day of competitive football, with plenty of matches giving the players lots of opportunities to test themselves.

We began the day in a round-robin group of four schools. The competition was incredibly tough, with every match bringing a new challenge. Our players showed tremendous passion and fought right until the final whistle. There were some exceptionally close matches, with the team narrowly missing out on progressing higher in the group and finishing fourth.

This meant we moved into the second round, where we faced schools that had finished in the same position in their respective groups. After a challenging opening match, the team really found their rhythm. The goals started to come, with excellent teamwork, determined defending and some fantastic finishing.

There were some memorable moments throughout the matches, including fingertip saves from our goalkeeper and some superb goals — including the impressive feat of scoring directly from a corner!

The team continued to demonstrate our PE values throughout the tournament:

Be passionate. Be respectful. Be determined.

• Be Passionate – The players showed enthusiasm and pride in every match, giving their all from the first whistle to the last.

• Be Respectful – They represented St George’s brilliantly, showing respect to opponents, referees, teammates and the hosts.

• Be Determined – Despite some difficult matches, the team kept going, worked together and finished the tournament strongly.

By the end of the second round, St George’s had finished third in their group, providing a fantastic finish to an action-packed afternoon of football.

A huge thank you to all the parents who came along and gave the team such fantastic support from the sidelines. Your encouragement made a real difference!

We would also like to say a big thank you to Dulwich College for hosting such an excellent tournament and providing our players with such a memorable experience.

Well done to all of our U10 players — we are already looking forward to next year’s tournament!
