🐧 Jemison Class: Bringing Penguins to Life Through Art!

This half term, our talented Year 1 Jemison class have been developing their skills as young artists as part of our Art curriculum focus on sketching and drawing.

We have been learning about the artwork of Albrecht Durer and his famous rhino sketch:

Throughout their learning, the children have been exploring how different types of lines and shading techniques can be used to create shape, texture and detail. They have practised using straight lines, curved lines and zig zags, as well as experimenting with smudging, blending and cross-hatching.

We have certainly lived out the calls to action outlined in our curriculum vision statement for Art:

Be creative. Be proficient. Be reflective.

These skills have helped our children to develop their confidence as artists and encouraged them to experiment, take creative risks and make choices about how they want their artwork to look. They have been learning that being an artist is not about making every drawing look the same, but about developing skills and using them to express their own ideas.

In their latest lesson, Jemison put their new skills to the test by creating their very own penguin drawings! 🐧🎨 They carefully considered the shapes and lines they needed before using shading techniques to add depth and detail to their penguins.

It was wonderful to see the children applying their learning independently and taking pride in their creations. Their artwork demonstrated not only their developing drawing skills, but also the curiosity, creativity and perseverance that we want to nurture through our Art curriculum.

At our school, we want every child to see themselves as a creative and confident artist, with the skills and imagination to explore, experiment and communicate their ideas through art. Jemison have certainly been doing just that!

Well done, Jemison — we can't wait to see where your creativity takes you next! 🌟🐧
