Super League Basketball

Young basketball fans attended the Basketball Playoff Finals at the O2.

On Sunday 18th May, 21 excited children from Years 4, 5, and 6 had the unforgettable opportunity to attend the Super League Basketball Play-Off Finals at the world-famous O2 Arena in London. The annual event showcases the very best of British basketball—and this year’s finals did not disappoint!

The children were lucky enough to have fantastic seats right behind the passionate Leicester Riders fans, adding even more energy and excitement to the day. The first game they watched was the Women's Final, where the Sheffield Hatters staged a thrilling comeback against the Oakland Wolves, winning in dramatic fashion during the final quarter. Cheers rang out as the Hatters' determination and team spirit turned the match in their favour.

Next came the Men’s Final, with the Leicester Riders putting on a dominant display to defeat the Newcastle Eagles with an impressive score of 105 to 74. The children were completely engaged throughout the fast-paced, high-energy game, witnessing incredible athleticism and teamwork.

Between games and during breaks, the entertainment continued with basketball league dancers, cheerleaders, and talented freestylers showing off their skills—ensuring there was never a dull moment in the arena.

Watching top-level athletes in action was not just fun—it also perfectly reflected our PE values:

  • Be Passionate – The players and fans showed incredible love for the game.

  • Be Determined – Both teams gave their all, never giving up, even when the score was tight.

  • Be Respectful – On and off the court, players demonstrated sportsmanship and respect for one another.

A massive thank you goes to the amazing staff who volunteered their time to make this trip possible: Miss Michell, Miss Doswell, and Aiden. Their support gave the children a chance to witness elite sport and experience the atmosphere of a major event—something they’ll remember for a long time!

What a brilliant day of sport, inspiration, and school spirit! 🏀👏
