A Wicket Day for Year 5/6 Girls!

Our Year 5/6 Girls cricketers batting their way to the top at St Dunstans!

On Thursday 22nd May, the Year 5/6 girls’ cricket team from St George’s proudly represented our school at the annual Lewisham School Games Cricket Tournament, held at the picturesque St Dunstan’s Jubilee Ground — and they truly shone with their performance!

From the first ball to the final over, the girls played with confidence, energy, and skill. Whether at the crease or out in the field, the team showed a professional level of play that caught the attention of more than just the spectators — even coaches from other schools were quick to comment on how well the St George’s girls were playing!

With the bat, the team was on fire — hitting 4s and 6s all over the park, including a staggering high score of 76 runs in a single match! In the field, they were just as sharp, working together with precision, calling clearly, backing each other up, and taking some incredible catches.

Although they narrowly missed out on a podium place, finishing a very respectable 4th, the girls held their heads high and left the pitch with pride — having played every match with heart, spirit, and sportsmanship.

Throughout the day, the team embodied the St George’s P.E. values:

  • Be passionate: Every player gave 100%, playing with joy and commitment.

  • Be respectful: The girls showed excellent sportsmanship to opponents, umpires, and teammates alike.

  • Be determined: They never gave up, chasing down every ball and fighting for every run, no matter the score.

A huge well done to our cricketing stars — your school is incredibly proud of you. What a smashing day!
