Platform Cricket Festival

Year 4 enjoying a day playing cricket to finish their Platform Cricket teaching.

On Friday 6th June, Year 4 pupils from St George’s had an unforgettable day at the Platform Cricket Festival, held at Mayow Park. The event marked the culmination of an exciting five-week cricket coaching programme delivered by the expert coaches at Platform Cricket. Over the course of the half-term, the coaches visited St George’s to introduce Year 4 to cricket skills, rules, and match play — and they weren’t the only ones! Other local schools were taking part too, all working towards this brilliant end-of-programme celebration.

Representing St George’s with pride and enthusiasm, two teams were entered into the tournament — Team A and Team B. The day was packed with cricket action and team spirit, starting in the morning with round-robin matches, followed by the knock-out stages in the afternoon.

Team A were placed in a group with five other schools and played superbly, winning all of their games except one, finishing a strong second in their group. Meanwhile, Team B were in a group of four other schools and went undefeated, topping their group with some fantastic teamwork and impressive batting and bowling.

All players on both teams demonstrated skill, sportsmanship, and determination as they advanced from the group stages into the knockout rounds. Their performance was a true reflection of St George’s P.E. values:

Be Passionate.

Be Respectful.

Be Determined.

Although both teams fought hard in the quarter finals, they were narrowly defeated in very close matches, just missing out on a place in the semi-finals. Despite the result, their effort and team spirit made the whole school proud.

A special mention must go to Demarkus, who was awarded Most Valuable Player, and Andy, who received the Sportsmanship Wristband — fantastic achievements that highlight their individual commitment and character on the field.

A huge thank you to Platform Cricket for organising such a well-run and exciting festival, and to all the parents who came along to cheer and support our cricketers throughout the day.

Well done, Year 4 — what a brilliant day of cricket and teamwork!
