St George's Shine at Athletics for All

10 lucky year 5 and 6 children attended the Athletics for All at Crystal Palace.
On Tuesday 17th June 2025, a group of lucky pupils from St George’s had the incredible opportunity to attend the Athletics for All event held at the iconic Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium—a venue steeped in sporting history and buzzing with energy all day long.
The day was all about giving children from across London the chance to experience a wide range of athletics skills in a professional, inspiring setting. From sprinting down the same straight used by world-class athletes, to jumping into the sandpit like true long jumpers, our pupils got stuck into every event with smiles, speed, and sandy socks.
But the excitement didn’t stop there.
Joining the children throughout the day were a host of GB and ex-GB athletes, offering expert guidance, top tips, and plenty of high-fives. Among the stars was Montell Douglas, former Olympian and now better known as ‘Fire’ from Gladiators, who brought the energy and fire (pun intended!) to every station she visited. Also in attendance was none other than Christine Ohuruogu, 2008 Olympic Champion in the 400m, who inspired the children with her calm focus and incredible achievements.
Every child left with a medal around their neck, a water bottle in hand, and a heart full of memories—a reminder of a fantastic day of sporting opportunity and joy.
The event was a brilliant celebration of our PE values at St George’s:
-
Be Passionate – every pupil gave their all, throwing themselves into new challenges with excitement and energy.
-
Be Respectful – they listened attentively to world-class athletes, showed great sportsmanship, and supported each other every step of the way.
-
Be Determined – whether they were trying something new or pushing for a personal best, their grit and determination shone through.
A huge thank you to the organisers of Athletics for All for putting together such an incredible experience—and to our pupils for doing St George’s proud. We can’t wait to see where their sporting journeys take them next!
