MAT Games 2025

St George's taking part in the SDBE MAT Games, at Dulwich College, on Tuesday 8th July, 2025.
On Tuesday 8th July 2025, the grounds of Dulwich College came alive with energy, excitement, and athletic talent as schools from across the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education (SDBE) gathered for the much-anticipated MAT Games Day. Among them was our very own St George’s, proudly taking part in what proved to be another successful and inspiring celebration of sport and community.
It was heartening to see the MAT Games continue to grow, becoming even bigger and better this year. The event brought together children from across the Multi-Academy Trust, with each school showcasing their sporting spirit and teamwork in a series of competitive events. The quality on display from all participants was nothing short of exceptional, and every child who took part should feel immensely proud of their efforts.
The day began with a fun-filled morning carousel of engaging activities, including target football, an energetic Tug-of-War, and the exciting Birds Nest game. The sounds of laughter and encouragement filled the air, setting the perfect tone for the rest of the day.
The main athletics events followed, where children competed in a jump (long or triple), a throw (rounders ball or vortex), and a run (80m, 150m, 600m, or relay). Our St George’s athletes rose to the occasion, proudly representing our school and living out our core P.E. values:
Be Passionate.
Be Respectful.
Be Determined.
There were many standout moments for St George’s:
-
Andrew delivered a powerful performance to take first place in the vortex throw.
-
Janice ran a phenomenal race, finishing second in the 80m by mere milliseconds.
-
Genesis impressed by winning his heat in the 80m, showing incredible determination and speed.
-
The boys’ relay team stormed to victory in their heat, demonstrating excellent teamwork and passion.
One of the most inspiring moments of the day came from Ibrahim, who was awarded the Sporting Spirit Award for Honesty. In a close-run race where it was difficult to judge between first and second place, Ibrahim took it upon himself to approach the judges and humbly confirm that he had actually come second. His integrity and sportsmanship were deeply respected and applauded by everyone present—an outstanding example of character in action.
These brilliant performances helped St George’s achieve 4th place overall, just shy of a podium finish, but our athletes left with smiles, pride, and a deep sense of achievement.
A heartfelt thank you to all the P.E. leads from every school who made the day such a success, and to all the young athletes whose effort, spirit, and sportsmanship made this event so memorable.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s MAT Games Day. Until then—well done Team St George’s!
