St George’s Achieves Platinum Games Mark Award for PE and Sport!

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the Platinum School Games Award for 2024/205.

We are thrilled to announce that St George’s has been awarded the Platinum Games Mark Award for PE and Sport! This fantastic achievement reflects the hard work and dedication that has gone into developing PE and sport at our school over the years.

At St George’s, we are committed to providing high-quality PE opportunities for all children. Every pupil has access to two hours of timetabled PE each week, in line with government recommendations, alongside a wide range of extra-curricular sports clubs. These include sport-specific clubs, multi-skills, and inclusive clubs, ensuring there is something for everyone.

We also focus on making competition inclusive and meaningful. At the end of each PE lesson, children take part in mini-competitions linked to the sport they are learning, helping them understand the importance of winning, losing, and staying determined. Our approach helps pupils live out our PE values:

  • Be Passionate – loving sport and giving their best in every lesson and club.

  • Be Respectful – showing sportsmanship to coaches and peers.

  • Be Determined – working hard to improve, even when challenges arise.

Our House Competitions in hockey, football, and athletics give all children the chance to compete for their house. We celebrate those showing the School Games Sporting Spirit, awarding them in assemblies, and maintain a running leaderboard to keep the excitement going.

In addition to our internal competitions, our pupils take part in monthly School Games Tournaments, competing against other schools and representing St George’s with pride. We have also introduced the Daily Mile Competition, where children challenge their personal bests and compete to earn a place on our stadium leaderboard.

This Platinum award is a celebration of the passion, respect, and determination shown by everyone at St George’s. We are incredibly grateful to all our staff for their dedication, helping to provide so many fantastic opportunities for children to enjoy sport and PE.
