Healthy Me!

It’s been another busy  couple of weeks in Nursery as our children continue to explore our topic “All About Me.” Through play, stories, and creative fun, the children have been thinking about what makes them special and how we can keep our bodies fit, strong, and healthy.

As part of our learning, we’ve been discovering the importance of healthy eating—and the children have truly embraced this! Our focus books, Avocado Baby and Oliver’s Fruit Salad, have inspired so much  discussion and activity.

In Avocado Baby, we met a very weak baby who becomes strong and full of energy thanks to eating healthy avocados—what a great reminder of how good food can help us grow! And in Oliver’s Fruit Salad, the children loved following Oliver’s adventure as he discovers how tasty healthy eating can be when shared with family.

To bring these stories to life, we’ve been busy cooking. The children have been little chefs, preparing and tasting avocado on toast and fresh fruit salad—and we’ve been so impressed by their enthusiasm to try new foods (and their chopping skills too!).

We’ve also been expressing our creativity through art, producing some beautiful fruit-themed still-life paintings and  fruit  repeating pattern prints. The children have carefully observed the colours, shapes, and textures of different fruits, creating colourful artwork.

Throughout all of this, we’ve been putting our Early Years Vision into practice:

Be an Explorer – investigating new foods and discovering what helps our bodies grow.
Be a Trier – tasting new fruits and giving cooking a go!
Be a Talker – sharing ideas and chatting about healthy choices.
Be a Creator – expressing ourselves through our wonderful artwork.
