Harvest, Fireworks and Fun in Nursery!
What an exciting few weeks we have had in Nursery! Our topic, All About Me, has continued to inspire us as we learn about the celebrations and festivals that are special to different families. The children have been busy exploring, talking, creating and trying new things every day.
We began by learning about Harvest Festival and thinking about the important work farmers do to gather crops across the world. The children showed fantastic concentration and creativity as they painted pictures of harvest pumpkins, practising their colour mixing skills and experimenting with different shades and tones.
We then explored the Hindu festival of Diwali. The children enjoyed creating and decorating their own Diya lamps, carefully choosing different paints and glitter to make them unique. We also learnt some simple Diwali dances, moving to music and expressing ourselves through dance.
Next, we talked about Bonfire Night. The children took inspiration from pictures of fireworks in the night sky and explored different colours to create bright and beautiful firework paintings. We also worked on developing our drawing skills in our books, thinking carefully about the shapes, lines and patterns we could see.
We have lived out our Early Years vision:
Be an explorer. Be a trier. Be a talker. Be a creator.
We are Explorers as we discover new traditions and festivals.
We are Triers as we practise new skills in art, dance and early mark making.
We are Talkers as we share our ideas, stories and experiences with our friends.
We are Creators as we use our imaginations to produce artwork inspired by the world around us.
