Home from Home in Nursery
This week in nursery, the children have continued with our topic All About Me, moving on to think about Our Homes - and where we live.
The children have loved sharing what makes their homes special and talking about who lives there with them. This has opened up lots of fantastic conversation and new vocabulary.
We have been very creative this week too! The children have designed and built their very own houses using a range of junk modelling materials. They explored collage techniques and printing, using paint, paper, cardboard and lots of imagination. We then turned our ideas into a St George’s Nursery Town, filled with streets and homes of all shapes and sizes!
Alongside this, the children have been using our small-world town to create their own imaginary play scenarios. They also built houses using construction, working together and sharing resources.
We linked our learning to two books:This is Our House by Michael Rosen and Who’s Who in Our Street by Jan Ormerod
It has been wonderful to see the children growing in every part of our Early Years Vision this week. They have been Explorers as they investigated different kinds of homes and materials. They were Triers when they worked together to tackle challenges in building and designing. They became Talkers as they shared ideas about their own homes and listened to others. And they were Creators when they used their imagination to build our very own St George’s Nursery Town.
Our Early Years Vision:
Be an Explorer.
Be a Trier.
Be a Talker.
Be a Creator.
