Musical Mozart Magic in Year 4

Year 4 playing Mozart on the glockenspiels

Year 4 recently showcased their musical talents with a fantastic performance on the glockenspiels, bringing to life a well-known classical piece by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Rondo Alla Turca.

At the start of the unit, pupils were introduced to the world of classical music, exploring influential composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven and Mozart. This gave them a deeper appreciation of how music has developed over time and inspired them as they began learning a famous piece themselves.

The children responded enthusiastically to Rondo Alla Turca, recognising its lively and energetic character. As their learning progressed, they were introduced to key musical concepts, including rhythm and changes in tempo. These new skills allowed them to better understand the structure and feel of the piece.

Using musical notation, pupils worked carefully to read and perform sections of the composition on the glockenspiels. This required focus, coordination, and teamwork, as they practised keeping in time and supporting one another to achieve a polished performance.

All pupils lived out our calls to action in our curriculum vision statement for music:

Be inspired. Be creative. Be dynamic.

Their final performance was a wonderful success, reflecting not only their growing musical ability but also their commitment to our music values. The children were truly inspired by the great composers they studied, creative in their approach to learning and performing, and dynamic in the energy and expression they brought to the piece.

Well done to Year 4 for their dedication and enthusiasm — a brilliant musical achievement and a joy to watch!
