A Whole Lot of Mandala Magic in Year 3

This term, Year 3 have been exploring the work of Faith Ringgold, taking inspiration from her bold use of colour, pattern, and storytelling through art.

As part of this topic, the children learnt about mandalas and how they are created using repeated shapes and concentric circles. They carefully planned their designs before painting, thinking about colour combinations and symmetry.

Using watercolours, the pupils painted vibrant concentric circles, showing great control and creativity. They then developed their work further by adding their own patterns and details, making each mandala unique.

Throughout the process, the children demonstrated fantastic focus, patience, and pride in their work. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they experimented with different artistic techniques.

The final pieces are a beautiful celebration of colour and creativity, and we are incredibly proud of the effort Year 3 have put into their artwork.

This artwork ensures that we are living out the calls to action in our curriculum vision statement for Art:

Be creative.

Be proficient.

Be reflective.
