Bean Busy Exploring!

Our learning on the topic of Land, Air and Water is continuing  in Nursery! The children have been busy exploring, investigating and creating through a range of activities.

We have been amazed at how much our beans have grown! The children have carefully observed the changes over time and have recorded their findings in their bean diaries. We have been learning about roots, shoots and leaves, and the children loved looking closely at the root systems growing inside the transparent containers before planting the beans. This has encouraged the children to ask questions, notice changes and develop their understanding of how plants grow.

The story of Jack and the Beanstalk continues to capture our imaginations and inspire our play. One of the children’s favourite activities has been designing and building castles for the Giant using different construction. The children have worked together to share ideas, solve problems and create wonderful structures.

We have also been learning about how beans can be part of a healthy diet. The children enjoyed creating their own healthy plates filled with vegetable collage and talking about foods that help our bodies grow strong and healthy. We are now very excited to continue our learning by cooking and tasting beans on toast together!

These experiences link  to our Early Years Vision:

  • Be an Explorer – investigating how beans grow and examining roots and shoots closely.
  • Be a Trier – planting beans, recording changes and trying new healthy foods.
  • Be a Talker – sharing ideas during our storytelling, role play and discussions about healthy eating.
  • Be a Creator – building giant castles, designing healthy plates and expressing ideas through imaginative play.
