Nursery Minibeasts!

This week in Nursery, the children have continued exploring our topic, Land, Air, Water.

We have been learning about minibeasts on land and in the air, while truly embracing our Early Years vision:

Be an explorer, be a trier, be a talker, be a creator.

The children have loved learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly through the classic story The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. They have been busy exploring how caterpillars grow and change, asking thoughtful questions and sharing their own ideas and observations with one another.

As creators, the children used printing techniques to make colourful caterpillars using circles and created beautiful symmetrical butterflies. They carefully explored pattern, colour and shape while developing their fine motor skills and creativity.

We are all SO excited because next week we will be welcoming some real live caterpillars into Nursery! The children cannot wait to observe them closely and watch the amazing transformation take place before their eyes.

Our learning has now moved on to spiders, inspired by the Eric Carle story The Very Busy Spider and the much-loved book  by Lydia Monks Aaaarrgghh Spider! The children have been fantastic talkers, discussing where spiders live, how they spin webs and why webs are so important.

At the moment, the Nursery children are being just as busy as spiders themselves, carefully creating their own beautiful web artwork. We are so pleased with the curiosity, imagination and enthusiasm they continue to show every day as they explore the world around them.
