Boundaries, Bowling and Brilliant Teamwork

Year 4 Enjoy Platform Cricket Festival at Mayow Park

On Friday 5th June 2026, Year 4 took part in the Platform Cricket Festival at Mayow Park, bringing together all the schools that had participated in the Platform Cricket programme during the Spring Term.

Earlier in the year, Platform Cricket delivered a six-week coaching block, where the children learnt the fundamentals of cricket. Throughout the programme, they developed their batting, bowling and fielding skills, focusing on the correct techniques and growing in confidence with every session.

The festival provided the perfect opportunity for the children to put these new skills into practice. The class was split into two teams, with each team competing in separate round-robin tournaments against other local schools.

There were some outstanding performances throughout the day. The children produced excellent batting displays, hitting numerous fours and sixes around the park. Their fielding was equally impressive, with players diving to stop boundaries and showing great awareness in the field. There was also some fantastic bowling, with children demonstrating the techniques they had worked hard to develop during the coaching sessions.

One of the highlights of the festival was the excellent sportsmanship shown by all of the children. They demonstrated respect for opponents, officials and teammates throughout the tournament. It was wonderful to see both teams come together to support one another, cheering every wicket, boundary and great piece of play.

Although the competition was strong and neither team progressed beyond the group stages, the children should be incredibly proud of what they achieved. In such a short space of time, they developed their skills significantly and represented the school brilliantly.

The day perfectly reflected our P.E. values:

Be Passionate – The children played with enthusiasm, energy and enjoyment throughout the festival.

Be Respectful – They showed excellent sportsmanship and respect towards everyone involved.

Be Determined – They never gave up, working hard for every run, wicket and fielding opportunity.

A special congratulations goes to Malick, who was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for their outstanding performance and contribution throughout the festival.

Thank you to Platform Cricket for organising another fantastic event and providing such a valuable opportunity for our children to develop their skills and enjoy competitive sport.
