🥕 Year 1 Jemison’s Food DT Day! 👩🍳🥒

Year 1 Jemison had a fantastic time taking part in our Food Design and Technology (DT) Day! π
The children learnt about the importance of food hygiene and how to use kitchen equipment safely and correctly. They then put their skills into practice by preparing a colourful selection of crudités using carrots, cucumber and peppers. π₯π₯π«
To accompany their vegetables, the children made a delicious tzatziki dip using Greek yoghurt, cucumber and lemon. π They explored how fresh ingredients can be combined to create a tasty, healthy snack!
Our DT day linked beautifully with our curriculum vision:
π‘ Be innovative – The children explored different ingredients and discovered how to combine them to create a healthy snack.
π Be hands-on – Everyone had the opportunity to prepare, chop and mix ingredients, developing their practical skills and confidence in the kitchen.
π Be diagnostic – The children thought carefully about the steps they needed to follow, used their senses to explore the ingredients and considered how to prepare their food safely and effectively.
βοΈ To build on their learning, the children linked their cooking experience to instructional writing. They wrote a step-by-step set of instructions, explaining how to prepare their crudités and make their tzatziki dip. This helped them understand the importance of clear instructions, sequencing and using imperative verbs.
We are so proud of Year 1 Jemison for being creative, curious and independent learners! π Their Food DT Day was a wonderful opportunity to develop practical life skills while bringing our DT vision to life. ππ©π³
