Jemison Gymnastics!

Year 1 Jemison Class are learning gymnastics in PE this term and are absolutely loving it!

At St George's, our PE vision is:

Be Passionate.  Be Respectful.  Be Determined.

We are lucky enough to have a specialist coach coming in to teach our gymnastics sessions and the children have definitely been passionate about their new topic.  They started off learning how to move their bodies in different ways, then rolls, then onto different types of individual balances using 1, 2, 3 or 4 points of contact.

This week the class has been learning counter-balances.  This means two children working together to create shapes and balances using each other's body.  We certainly need to be respectful when working closely in partners!  Some of the counter-balance challenges were very complex, so each pair had to be determined and persist until they got it right.

They mastered the challenges so well, Year 1 even got to make up their own counter-balances!  Have a look at our balances below - do you think you could try some like this?
