Marvellous mechanisms!

This week, Year 5 completed their mechanism projects in DT.

Our DT focus this term has been mechanisms. We learnt about gears and pulleys before having a go at making and using some. Children put this learning into action when planning and problem-solving in groups for their final projects. They were tasked with making a mechanism which would transport a toy car safely on to the top of a 'building'.

Our vision statement for Design Technology at St George's is:

Be innovative.

Be hands-on.

Be diagnostic.

As our DT vision states, children were innovative and hands-on when designing and building their projects. As challenges and setbacks occurred, they were diagnostic, and all groups managed to successfully move the car using their pulleys! Check out the photos below of our budding engineers at work!
