Fluent Reading!

Jemison Class have been learning to become fluent readers!

At St George's, our English vision is:

Be a reader.

Be a writer.

Be a communicator.

Children are given the opportunity to explore a wide range of high-quality reading materials to spark their interest. We use a systematic synthetic phonics programme called the ‘Little Wandle’ that provides the building blocks for reading and writing as the children link letters to sounds and begin to blend and segment words.

Our Year 1 class have been engaging in small group reading three times a week with an adult to ensure that they can apply their phonics to their reading books while learning about fiction and non-fiction books.

During our whole class reading response lesson, we have been reading the traditional tale of Peter Rabbit. They were shocked when they found out it was first written over 100 years ago, in 1901! In the words of Jemison class, "Peter Rabbit was a very very VERY naughty bunny."

Ask Year 1 to find out what happened to Peter Rabbit!
