Melting Madness!
In Year 4, we have been learning about the States of Matter.
Continuing on from last term, our science topic has been all about chemistry! Tull class have been exploring the 3 states of matter and how matter changes from one state to another. In this lesson, we focused on melting. Children learnt that melting is when matter changes from a solid state to a liquid state by increasing the matters temperature.
To put this learning into practice, Tull class did an experiment where they investigated the melting points of 3 different solids. Working in groups, they melted ice, chocolate and butter by putting equal amounts of hot water in measuring containers and covering it with foil (to act as our heat source) and checked their melting points using a thermometer.
Pupils thoroughly enjoyed this science lesson and it linked perfectly with our science vision of:
Be academic. Be curious. Be practical.
