World Book Day 2024!

Everyone enjoyed the annual World Book Day celebrations in school this week!

Our English vision states:

Be a reader.

Be a writer.

Be a communicator.

World Book Day is always a great opportunity to live out this vision, as well as to live out our culture statement: we are fun, we are together.

Whole School Worship

We started the day with a special whole school worship, where Mrs Franklin-Smith read a story to the children. The book is called 'Leaf' about a polar bear, who floats away from his home. The book has amazing illustrations! Children enjoyed being readers, making predictions and reading parts of the speech.

Dressing Up

Children and adults came dressed as all sorts of book characters; a lot of effort was put into costumes! See which characters you can spot below:

Writing Lessons

Back in classes, all children were being writers, producing writing based on 'Leaf'. Some classes focused on character and setting descriptions and some retold parts of the story.

Paired Reading and Library

Children also had the opportunity to be readers and communicators, during paired reading with different classes and during their class slot in the school library. Children were all given their chosen free World Book Day book this week too, which some children enjoyed reading for pleasure in the library.

We are already looking forward to World Book Day 2025!
