Let's Germinate

In Benjamin class we have been learning about germination.

This term, we have started our new topic in science: plants.

We have been learning about the term germination. We found out that a seed is a store of energy. We also learnt that in order for a plant to grow, it requires water and warmth.

We looked at the stages of germination; starting with a seed, then with a root which grows downwards, after water and warmth is generated. It develops into a shoot. Once the seed splits, leaves are formed and gradually it turns into a plant (if looked after).

Year 2 had the opportunity to grow their own vegetables this week. Some pupils decided to grow raddish whilst others made the decision to grow Swiss chard.

We can't wait to see the stages of germination for our own vegetables. We will keep you updated!
