Let's get muddy!
In Science this week we have been getting mucky, looking at the layers of soil.
We already know soil is the upper layer of ground, but now we know there are four layers of soil, starting with bedrock, rock fragments, subsoil and finally topsoil. We also learnt about the different elements in soil, such as: humus, air, water, rock fragments and microorganisms.
We looked at two different soil samples taken from different parts of the playground. We had to investigate whether there were any microorganisms in the soil and name them. We also used a sieve to find any air content within the two samples. In one of the samples there were a lot of humus (roots, seeds and leaves), whilst the other sample had none!
Sancho-Thunberg class ave certainly lived up to our curriculum vision statement for Science:
Be academic. Be curious. Be practical.
