Jumping in with a SPLASH!
For the past two weeks, Year 4 have been learning to swim!
It has been a very exciting beginning to the second half of Autumn term for year 4, as they ventured to Forest Hill Pools every day to develop their swimming skills. At St George's, we acknowledge the importance of swimming as an essential life skill and a valuable part of the physical education curriculum. Children learnt that swimming is not only a great way to enhance physical fitness, but also a great way to improve their own confidence in staying safe in water. For two weeks, our year 4's attended Forest Hill Pools for a daily one-hour session. In these sessions, children were split into three groups. There were some children who developed their swimming skills and some children who went swimming for the first time. As always, they were great ambassadors to St George's and met all of our P.E values:
Be passionate.
Be respectful.
Be determined.
For many of the children who started as non-swimmers and walked in the learning pool at the beginning, the two-week intensive swimming programme became a journey of perseverance and achievement. At the beginning, some students were hesitant about being in the pool, but by the end, with great perseverance in excellent teaching from the instructors, they were able to swim the width of the pool.
I am sure we have some future Olympians in the class!
