Perfectly Peaceful

In R.E, we looked at what is peace and what peace is to us.

Our Christmas topic for R.E is, 'How does Christmas represent peace?'.

To begin, we discussed the word peace and what it means. Following on, we explored the two main types of peace - inner and outer.

We spoke about how inner peace is when you are peaceful within yourself. Children discussed with each other how they find inner peace.

Many children had similar view points, where they felt peaceful outside in a calming area, such as the sea or the forest. From this, the discussion led to how many of us find nature very peaceful.

After looking at inner peace, we then discussed outer peace. We thought about how we can create outer peace and what outer peace looks like. This went from looking at conflicts around the world and what peace looks like to what peace looks like in a school setting.

After the children shared their ideas, we thought about what this would look like as a picture. Children combined their spiritual and creative minds to make some artistic pictures on peace.

Our curriculum vision statement for RE is:

Be curious.

Be informed.

Be reflective.

The pupils have certainly been 'reflective' so far.

Have a look at some of the pieces of peace we created.

"I find peace when I think of God, that is why I added the cross. I wish that there will be peace on earth. I find water the most calming thing on Earth."

"I find the beach the most peaceful place because the sound of the waves are so relaxing, that I can be calm and relax."

"I find nature really peaceful. The birds singing brings me joy and makes me think that the world is happy. I added a dove, as it is the symbol of peace for Christianity."

"I find the sunset peaceful as I can think about what I have done that day. I find the sound of the waves soothing and however I am feeling, the sound will always bring me peace."

We look forward to continuing our learning of peace at Christmas, when we look at what the Bible tells Christians about peace.
